Advice from your Exec
Feeling nervous about starting your journey at NTU? With less than a week to go until Freshers’ Week gets underway, your Executive Officer team share their advice for making the most of your first year.
Bradley – NTSU President
My biggest piece of advice is to just get involved. It may seem daunting when you first arrive here at NTU, but we have one of the most welcoming student communities. Step out of your comfort zone, you won’t regret it. It was the best thing I ever did.
Liv – VP Community and Welfare
My advice is to get stuck in and don’t be afraid to talk to new people. If you’re feeling nervous here’s a little secret: everyone else is too. Sometimes it just takes one person to be confident and start up a conversation then, before you know it, you are friends! Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice during Freshers’ Week and the rest of your time at Trent.
Jack – VP Activities
Make sure you budget. That spontaneous night out might mean you’re unable to go to an even bigger event down the road, so plan ahead. Get involved with everything you possibly can. The closest friends I have to this day are the people I met in societies and sports teams.
Yemi – VP Postgraduate
My advice is for you to make the best use of all the opportunities the Union and NTU have to offer. Run your own events, volunteer in the community, study abroad, make new friends and have fun. Remember, you’ll only be a student once and at NTSU we are here to support you all the way.
Momen – VP Sport
Join a sports club, a society or even both! I joined NTU Equestrian in my first year and it gave me the opportunity to compete all around the country at BUCS and make new friends I now happily call family.
Afua – VP Education
The best advice I can could offer you is to embrace your new surroundings and those new people around you because NTU is your new home! Try a new sport or take up a new interest – who knows where you’ll end up a few years down the line?
