TRENT FRESHERS SAFETY

Going the extra mile to keep you safe

NTSU prioritises the safety and well-being of all students attending Freshers events

We understand that creating a safe and enjoyable environment is crucial for an unforgettable night out.  We prioritise your well-being and create a Freshers experience where you can relax, have fun and connect with other students.  You can expect:

Dedicated student volunteers

We are proud to have a team of over 300 passionate and trained volunteers made up of current and ex NTU students, who work tirelessly to ensure Freshers have a positive introduction to life at NTU.

These volunteers are easily identifiable by their bright coloured “Freshers Team” t-shirts and will be at all official Freshers venues until the end of every event. They are always there ready to assist you with any concerns or questions you may have.

We collaborate closely with reputable venues known for their commitment to safety. The Students Union, and our partner venues all have:

Trained and vigilant SIA qualified Security Staff who are experienced in maintaining a secure environment.

Dedicated and friendly Welfare Staff who can be approached during events for any reason. They are there to listen to attendees and respond to any problems.

Comprehensive security systems keeping you safe from the minute you step into the venue.

Best Bar None accreditation – This is a national scheme awarded to venues that provide and promote excellent standards of welfare and care. The Students’ Union venues have achieved the Gold standard again in 2024, and we only work with other venues that have also been accredited through this prestigious Nottingham Best Bar None national scheme.

Ask Angela Scheme – All venues that we work with have implemented the Ask Angela scheme. This initiative encourages students to approach any member of staff and ask for “Angela” if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. This discreet phrase signals that you need help and prompts our team to respond swiftly and appropriately to ensure your well-being.

We provide transport options for students ensuring you can travel to the official events without worry.

These include the dedicated Freshers bus transportation to venues for all large events that are not within walking distance of the event venue.

We also partner with reputable local taxi company Nottingham Cars to ensure that you have a reliable and secure mode of transportation after our events.

Through Nottingham Cars we also provide an Emergency Get Home Safe taxi scheme to ensure you have a way to pay your fare even if you’ve run out of money so you never have to walk home alone. Find out more here

2025 sees Nottingham awarded Purple Flag status – Our great city is recognised for the 15th year in a row for excellence in providing those who visit our city a safe, diverse and vibrant nightlife experience.
